Robert Butler age 85 of West Deptford, New Jersey passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013. He was born September 6, 1928 in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Dr. J. Russell Butler (who helped found Underwood Hospital) and Rachel Butler. He was married for 62 years to Patricia Butler, who preceded him in passing this past July. He is survived by 3 children, Barbara Butler of Woodbury, Michael (Diane) Butler of Parker CO and Russell (Amy) Butler of Woodbury; and 4 grandchildren Melissa, Collin, Robert & Kaitlin.
Robert earned a BS degree in accounting from Rider College, working in the accounting field all of his career, most recently with the accounting firm of Nightlinger & Associates, where he performed government audits. Additionally, he served as the West Deptford Township clerk from 1955 to 1982.
Some of his proudest moments came while he served in the Army during the Korean War in the CIC (Counter Intelligence Corps) in support of the Secret Service agents assigned to President Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower on their South Jersey Visits. Robert was also instrumental in the apprehension of a civilian who had come to Woodbury to pick up a package of highly classified Army documents he was selling to a Foreign Consulate Commerce Representative for the KGB.
He was active with the West Deptford Kiwanis, serving as its' President for a one year term, and enjoyed league bowling all of his adult life.
