Margaret Jean Gillespie

October 27, 1927 — April 8, 2012

Margaret Jean Gillespie, 84, of Woodbury Heights, died Sunday at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township after a long illness. She had recently been a resident at the nearby Kennedy Health Care Center.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Woodbury. After graduating from Woodbury High School in 1945, she became an operator at Bell Telephone Co. in Woodbury. She continued to work as an operator after the company became AT&T and retired in 1987 as an assistant chief operator.

After she retired, she was active in the AT&T Pioneers and the Woodbury Heights Senior Citizens and also devoted much time to various crafts, especially ceramics. She was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her twin, Shirley Elaine Gillespie of Woodbury Heights; a brother, John R. Gillespie and his wife, Mary, of Hammonton; a niece, Elizabeth Medaglia of Wyomissing Hills, Pa.; a nephew, Dr. John A. Gillespie of Berlin, Md.; three grandnephews and two grandnieces; and her friends, Samuel and Janette Sciglitano of Sewell.

Friends may visit with the family from 10am to 11:30am Thursday at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL HOME, 171 Delaware St., Woodbury. A burial service will follow at 12 noon at Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Delaware St. Woodbury. Interment will be in Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro.
