Lester R. Hummel, lifelong resident of Thorofare and Verga, passed away on November 24, 2012 at age 82. Beloved husband of Emma (nee Stauffer) for 58 years, Lester served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and subsequently worked as a machinist for Campbell Soup. A skilled woodworker, he would often present family and friends with handcrafted birdhouses as thank you gifts. He enjoyed performing in family theater productions with West Deptford Little Theater. His role as the peddler in Oklahoma and his rendition of "Get Me to the Church on Time" from My Fair Lady were legendary. He thought there were only two sports worth watching, baseball and football, and two teams worth rooting for, the Phillies and the Eagles. Whether they were deserving was debatable. In his younger days he loved to fish and he thought crabs and corn made the perfect meal. Lester is survived by his wife Emma, son Ken Hummel and his wife Ellen of Wenonah, daughter Judy Perseo and her husband Michael of Hammonton, his brothers Harlet, Walter and David Hummel and seven grandchildren, Catie, Frank, Tim, Cole, Daniel, Leah and Joshua. He was predeceased by his brothers Elwood and Joe and his sister Charlotte.
