Joseph Wood 'Woody' Platt

Joseph Wood "Woody" Platt, age 88, died on November 19. Born in Woodbury, Woody was a long-time resident of Wenonah and lived most recently in West Deptford, Pitman, and Franklinville. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Vivian (nee Eggert), and his children Richard (Rosemarie) of Skillman, Diane Thorn (Albert) of Monroeville, Larry (Donna) of Sewell, and Jennifer Childs (Jim) of Woodbury Heights. He is survived by nine grandchildren: Kathryn and Lauren Platt, Ashley McAlister (Jason), Victoria Thomas (Gene), Julie Yusko (Storm), Brian and Sarah Platt, and Maggie and Emmy Childs. He is also survived by five great granddaughters: Hannah, Molly, Peyton, McKenna, and Madison. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Polk. Woody was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years Marjorie Platt (nee Pime) and his parents Joseph and Florence Platt.
Woody leaves a legacy behind as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, locally renowned artist, gardener, bowler, and hardworking man. He worked at Texaco for 35 years, served in the U.S. Army, and was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Woodbury, where he served the church as a deacon, board member, and many other positions including softball coach. He was also a long-time member of the Gloucester County Art League, of which he once served as president. Woody was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening, golfing, hunting, softball, baseball, Ocean City, and his home away from home Garrison Lake. Besides his family, Woody's greatest passion in life was the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved his team and even volunteered at Citizens Bank after retirement to be close to his beloved Phillies. Woody will be greatly missed by all those he touched throughout his lifetime.
A private family service will be held at DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL HOME followed by interment at Eglington Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held 11am December 3rd at Central Baptist Church 37 S. Jackson St. Woodbury, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Woody's name to Central Baptist Church. Memories and condolences shared at daviswagner.com
