John Gardner Ehlers

John Gardner Ehlers, husband to the late Jean Eldridge Curtis, passed away on Nov. 11, 2011 while residing at Cardinal Village in Washington Township, NJ. "Jack" was born in New York City in 1917 and grew up in Essex Fells, NJ, where he was involved with the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1938 and had a long career as a chemical engineer at Mobil Oil Company in Paulsboro, NJ. There, during World War II he conducted chemical analysis and intelligence work for the war effort. Jack was a sports enthusiast throughout his life, begining with his days as a high school basketball and baseball player, and later as an enthusiatic supporter of his daughters' swim teams at the Wenonah Swim Club and SeaJays of South Jersey, and as an avid fan of baseball, softball and wrestling. He was an elder in the Wenonah Memorial Presbyterian Church and was heavily involved in the building campaign for the Social Hall. Jack was a long time member of the Wenonah Historical Society; he and his wife Jean introduced the Society's program for historical home placards. Jack is survived his daughters Leigh Telotte of Smyrna, GA, and Charlotte Weber of Wenonah, NJ, their husbands Jay and Alan, and four grandchildren: Gabrielle Telotte, Justin Telotte, Christopher Weber and Alan Weber II.
Visitation Thursday 11am until the Service at 12pm at DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, N.J. Interment Wenonah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Wenonah Memorial Presbyterian Church.
