Howard G. “Dick” Wagner Jr., 88, of West Deptford, passed away on November 21, 2023. Dick was born in Camden and resided in Woodbury before moving to West Deptford in 2001. Dick was a funeral director for over 40 years for his family business Wagner Funeral Home, established in Woodbury in 1895. In 2003 Wagner Funeral Home combined with Davis Funeral Home creating Davis & Wagner Funeral Home where he continued to work with Mark & Kerri Growney until his retirement in 2020.
Dick spent most of his life volunteering in many organizations; he was a member of F&AM #87 Florence Masonic Lodge, Excelsior Consistory AASR, Crescent Temple Shrine, he was the Past President and the Secretary/Treasurer for 24 years of the West Jersey Funeral Directors Association, Former Battalion Chief and President of the Goodwill Fire Co. #2 Woodbury, Exchange Club of Woodbury, Councilman on the Woodbury City Council from 1972 to 1979, Past President of the Woodbury Breakfast Rotary Club, Past President for the Homeowners Association of The Village of River Winds and he volunteered at Underwood Memorial Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House Southern New Jersey.
Dick was a former member of Kemble Memorial United Methodist Church for sixty-five years, where he was a trustee, head usher, served on the scholarship committee, an MYF advisor, and for many years enjoyed their couples club. In 2013 he became a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in West Deptford where he enjoyed working their food bank.
Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years Sandra (nee Coan) Wagner; daughter Karen (Steve) Kennedy; son Kurt (Mark) Wagner; granddaughter Nadia; sisters-in-law Joy Wagner & Marie Coan and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his father Howard G. Wagner Sr., mother Julia Wagner Paul, brother Jeffrey M. Wagner and brother-in-law George Coan.
Visitation 6 to 8pm Friday November 24th and 9am Saturday November 25th until the service at 10am at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, NJ.
