Helen Tapper

August 9, 1920 — September 26, 2011

Helen A. Tapper, formerly of Woodbury, passed peacefully in the Pitman Manor Monday, September 26, 2011. She was 91.

Helen was born August 9, 1920, daughter of the late Amelia (Lutz) and Walter P. Harris in Woodbury. She remained a lifetime resident of Woodbury until moving into the Assisted Living Center at the Pitman Manor in September, 2004.

Helen was active throughout her lifetime within the community supporting activities and memberships she was part of. She was active in the Walnut Street School PTA for many years, serving as President and other roles over the years. She also worked with the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs as well as the Woodbury Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball organizations as her family grew.

In later years, Helen continued to enjoy helping others by volunteering at the Lakeland Psychiatric Hospital. She would assist the families visiting patients within the facility as well as transporting some of the patients to their therapy sessions if permitted. She continued for a few years until she was asked to coordinate the entire volunteer program within the facility and then served in that capacity for approximately five years. She always enjoyed visiting and talking with people.
Helen was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, which later merged and became St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Woodbury. She remained active within the "Ladies Circle" group which provided assistance to the church membership. She also spent many years supporting and working in the volunteer program at the Lutheran Home in Moorestown, NJ.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Tapper, Sr. in 1992, and her brother Walter Harris in 2002. She is survived by her two sons; Earl C. Tapper Jr. and wife Lois of Readington Township, NJ, and Russell J. Tapper and wife Susan of West Chester, PA; her beloved sister, Katherine Beach and husband George of Glassboro, NJ; her grandchildren Kimberly Cole and husband David of Hillsborough, NJ and Todd R. Tapper and wife Rebecca of Bristow, VA; her two great grandsons Brian and Kevin Cole and numerous cousins, nephews and a niece.

Visitation 10am to 12 noon Friday Sept. 30th at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, NJ. Funeral services 12:30pm at St. Stephens Church 230 N. Evergreen Ave. Woodbury, NJ. Interment Eglington Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers contribution may be made in Helen's name to St. Stephens Lutheran Church or Pitman Manor 535 N. Oak Ave. Pitman, NJ 08071.
