Donnell B. 'Digger' Davis

Donnell B. "Digger" Davis Sr., 77 of Woodbury, NJ passed away on June 27, 2012

Donnell Davis was a lifelong resident of Woodbury. He grew up working at the Davis Funeral Home; thus earning his nickname "Digger." He was devoted to his family and his community. A member of the Woodbury Friendship Fire Company for 59 years, Don retired from his career as a firefighter in 1991.

He remained active as a Fire Inspector for years after, as well as serving as Treasurer of the Firemen's Relief Association. He was an electrician and worked for both Gloucester County Electric and Holdstein Electric.

Don was a 13 year member of the Woodbury School Board serving six of those years as Vice-President. Don was also a former Woodbury Little League Baseball coach and a member of the Clarksboro Masonic Lodge #87 F&AM.

Don was a simple man and easily pleased. As a member of the Pitman Country Club, Don loved playing golf with his sons, grandsons, and friends. He also thoroughly enjoyed his weekly card games with his buddies. He found great joy in attending his sons' and then, grandchildren's sporting events. His early years were spent playing the organ at Sweeney's Black Cat, as well as entertaining holiday houseguests.

Donnell was predeceased by his loving wife Jane (nee Hill); son, Thomas; sister, Nancy Renner; and brother, T. Budd. He will be forever missed by his sons; Dale (Joanne) of Woodbury, Mark (Susan) of Newark, Delaware, Donnell Jr. (Sherrie) of West Deptford, Jeffrey (Linda) of Dover, DE, Anthony (Song) O'Connor of Pittsgrove, NJ and grandchildren; Dale, Brendan, Cullen, Maggie, T. Budd, Nate, Josh, Zach, and Elle, and longtime dear friend, Ruth Costello. His card buddies and golf friends will miss him as well.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 pm until 8 pm and Monday 10:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware Street Woodbury, NJ.
