Colonel George M. Wilson, USMC, Ret.,81, of West Deptford on July 18th. George was born and raised in Paulsboro, he entered the Navy in 1944. In 1947, he entered the University of Miami on a football scholarship, he graduated in 1951 with a BA in Education. George was Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marines on May 23, 1952, Colonel Wilson retired after 28 years of service.
Colonel Wilson had many accomplishments, medals and decorations which include: The Silver Star Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Puple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Medal with two stars, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one star, Republic of Vietnam Services Medal with four stars, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation of the Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
George was predeceased by his sweetheart & love of his life "Dottie," his parents W.R. & Marie Wilson; sister Lillian Lehman & brother Robert Wilson. He is survived by 3 sisters Anna Miskofsky of Williamstown, Wilma & George Walter of Logan Twp. & Jayne Del Grosso of Naughtuck, CT; his extended family, cousins, nieces & nephews and his wonderful caring neighbors.
Visitation Wednesday 7 to9pm and Thursday 9 to10am at the DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Paulsboro, NJ. Interment with Military Honors in Eglington Cemetery.
